For ongoing community service work, the staff at Petland
in Tinley Park was awarded a 2005 Quest Award by Petland,
Inc. for demonstrating excellence in community service and
a long-term commitment to enhancing the human-animal bond.
 Among
their many community service-oriented projects, the pet counselors
at Petland in Tinley Park help raise funds for Illinois Vest-a-Dog,
a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the lives
of K-9 police dogs through the purchase and donation of bullet
and stab resistant vests. Locally, Petland Tinley Park holds
several fundraising events to collect funds for the K-9s that
protect and serve the local community every day. Donations
are obtained through the store's annual dog wash, pet pictures
with Santa and continual in-store donations. Petland Tinley
Park matches dollar for dollar all proceeds raised to benefit
Illinois Vest-a-Dog.
 Petland
Tinley Park also collects funds year-round for St. Jude Children's
Research Hospital. All dollars raised in the store are matched
by Petland Tinley Park. St. Jude is located in Memphis, Tenn.,
and is dedicated to researching and treating catastrophic
diseases in children, and is known primarily for finding cures
for pediatric cancers. All patients accepted for treatment
at the facility are treated, regardless of the family's ability
to pay for medical services.
In addition, Petland Tinley Park Pet Counselors are involved
year-round in numerous charitable and community service endeavors.
The store's outreach efforts include:
- Sponsoring an annual Halloween party, a day with
Santa, an Easter party, and Herby-Derby hamster races
for the children in our community
- Sponsoring the Tinley Park Library Reading Program
as well as the Illinois D.A.R.E. program and other
local public and private school programs
- Assisting with work study programs and school science
projects in three area high schools
- Offering year-round Petland store tours for preschool
students, public school students (K-12), disabled
students-adults, Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops,
and 4-H club members.
- Sponsoring an annual doggy walk for the American
Cancer Society, where our four-legged friends help
collect funds to help fight the battle against cancer
- Hosting a "Living Classroom" with Safari
Stan, Petland's #1 Pet Counselor, for local schools
at Francis 4-H Field to bring together children and
more than 100 animals
- Sponsoring a "Bring Your Dog to the Ballpark
Day" at the Windy City Thunderbolts stadium for
families and their pets
- Collecting funds for hurricane relief for both people
and pets; Since many Hurricane Katrina victims were
housed in Tinley Park, our Petland store also offered
food and supplies to pets that were brought to the
area.
- Collecting supplies for several local animal shelters
during the holiday season
- Sponsoring the Mokena Pet Parade every fall
- Sponsoring and collecting funds for the Bark in
the Park dog park in Frankfort.
- Supporting various schools both public and private
through fund raisers and silent auction donations
