With these growing pet ownership statistics, it’s no
wonder that the future of the pet industry has enormous profit
potential. The pet industry is a multi-billion industry. At
present, the pet industry is dominated by small, independent
retailers and a few large impersonal chain stores that feature
pet foods, discounted supplies and few or no pets. These large
corporate stores offer little, if any, personalized service
to the new or experienced animal or tropical fish enthusiast.
The merchandise and pets
offered at a majority of the small independent stores reflect
the interests of the pet store owner rather than the needs
of customers. Many limit offerings to one type of pet. And
this limits the possibility of sales to customers who own
a variety of pets.

pet retailers lack expertise in animal care, merchandising
techniques, financial planning and marketing of their business.
